SOUTH COTABATO SCHOOL DAMAGED BY SOIL EROSION
SEVERAL classrooms at the Kiantay Elementary School in Surallah, South Cotabato were damaged because of soil erosion caused by heavy rains.
In a report, the Department of Education said that four rooms, including the principal’s office, were rendered unusable.
“Several cracks on the ground appear as of today and the soil is saturated and experiencing liquifactions due to this rainy season,” DepEd Tayo Kiantay Elementary School – 208519 said on Facebook.
The Surallah Engineering Office said that the school building stands on a hazard prone area.
It recommended total evacuation.
“At the moment, the school site is inhabited. Temporarily, the teachers and staff are not reporting because there is a probable circumstance of landslide,” the school said.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will conduct an investigation of the incident.
