NORTHERN SAMAR GOV’T GIVES SCHOLARSHIP TO 8 ASPIRING DOCTORS

/ 29 December 2020

THE NORTHERN Samar government has given eight aspiring doctors medical scholarship grants.

The recipients of the scholarship grant were six students from Dr. Remedios T. Romualdez Medical Foundation in Tacloban City and one each from the University of Cebu and Far Eastern University.

Northern Samar Provincial Health Officer and MSP board chairman Ninfa Kam said that the scholarship covers tuition and other school fees up to P100,000. The scholars will also receive P70,000 stipend, book and uniform allowance per semester.

The provincial government will shoulder the internship and review fees for the physician licensure examination amounting to P60,000.

A scholar will receive a total of P1.5 million in benefits.

“In return, scholars are required to render the service in the provincial and districts hospitals, depending on the number of years they have availed of the program,” Kam said.

“Coming back here is more than self-fulfilling. It is beyond what money can give. Money can help give comfort, get what you want, but making a difference in the lives of others, especially in health, is something really beyond fulfillment,” she added.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan expressed his support to the scholars, urging them to “carry their dreams of becoming doctors of medicine with diligence and love for public service.”
