EX-MILF FIGHTERS CAN CONTINUE STUDIES — BARMM

/ 1 May 2021

FORMER members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front now have the chance to pursue their studies under the government’s educational program for ex-rebels, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said.

The Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the educational projects for decommissioned combatants.

“The MOA covers P56.5 million Bangsamoro Grants-In-Aid Higher Education Program and the P90.3 Million Alternative Learning System Program for decommissioned combatants and their dependents, including selected residents from the six previously recognized MILF camps. The identification of recipients and target areas will be further determined by OPAPP and MBHTE,” it said on its website.

“The BGIAHEP is an educational program that will comprise a subsidy for tuition and other school fees for a semester and summer classes, monthly stipend, book allowance, and learning support, among others,” it added.

The MOA also aims to help Higher Education Institutions ensure accessible quality education in the Bangsamoro region.

MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal expressed hope that these programs will ensure that “no one will be left behind” in the region.
