YOUTH GROUP CONDEMNS USE OF ‘RED-TAGGING POSTERS’
THE KABATAAN Party-list on Monday denounced the alleged use of posters “demonizing” members of the Makabayan bloc at a voters assistance desk in Amsic High School in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The youth organization said the walls were also vandalized with black propaganda reading: “Wag iboto salot, KABAG, CPP-NPA-NDF.”
The group also questioned the presence of armed personnel at the precinct.
“When initially confronted, volunteers claimed that they installed the posters on the booth supposedly to fend off heat. However, upon further questioning while in front of the camera they backtracked and instead said that the posters were already present the night before. The police officer denied any involvement as well,” the party-list said.
The group said that the police and volunteers later took down the posters.
“This is unacceptable. We call for an investigation on the issue to penalize the culprits given conflicting stories from volunteer personnel on how the voter’s assistance desk turned into a redtagging booth,” it said.
“We call on government personnel in precincts to follow rules against electioneering and actively take down any redtagging posters in the vicinity of the polling place. We call on Comelec to make decisive action and implement a ban on redtagging posters in particular on election day. The desk contained illegal redtagging propaganda for half of the day until 11:18 am while being 5 feet away from the precinct,” it added, referring to the Commission on Elections.
