TESDA BOLSTERS MOMENTUM TO ALIGN WITH EDCOM RECOMMENDATIONS
FOLLOWING the release of the EDCOM 2 Year Two report, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has expressed strong support and readiness to implement the recommended reforms.
“We welcome the roadmap outlined in the EDCOM 2 report to strengthen the technical-vocational education and training sector. With the recently passed landmark EBET LAW, we have been actively engaging with various industries to ensure our technical education system is resilient, inclusive, and adaptive,” said TESDA Director General Kiko Benitez.
Benitez emphasized the importance of aligning TVET programs with industry needs.
“We thank EDCOM 2 for shedding light on the challenges in TVET. TESDA is working alongside the Commission and other stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to ensure our training programs produce employable graduates who can meet the demands of the evolving labor market,” the former EDCOM 2 Commissioner explained.
Benitez, also a former congressman of the third district of Negros Occidental, further highlighted TESDA’s efforts, in partnership with other institutions, to provide more effective pathways for Filipinos to upskill and reskill.
“We are focused on enhancing our program delivery and resource allocation to ensure we equip the workforce with the necessary skills, while also carving a path toward lifelong learning,” he added.
During the launch of EDCOM 2’s Year Two Report, Commissioner Senator Joel Villanueva also introduced Senate Bill 2960, a bill aimed at strengthening lifelong learning development programs in the country.
“The Lifelong Learning and Development Framework Bill is one of our EDCOM priorities, recognizing it as a cornerstone in reshaping Philippine education. These reforms are essential to ensure that our education system is responsive to current realities and provides opportunities for Filipinos to reskill and upskill in an ever-changing world,” said Dr. Karol Mark Yee, Executive Director of EDCOM2.
As the Commission enters its third and final year, it will work with key educational agencies and relevant stakeholders to develop the National Education and Workforce Development Plan. This plan aims to align educational outcomes with labor market demands, ensuring the education system not only meets the current needs of the Philippine economy but anticipates future workforce requirements.
