TEACHERS GRANTED 30-DAY UNINTERRUPTED FLEXIBLE VACATION
THE DEPARTMENT of Education has introduced a 30-day uninterrupted flexible vacation without school-related commitments for teachers, as part of a recently amended policy.
This policy reflects the President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the work-life balance of teachers, ensuring they have time to rest and recharge without the burden of additional responsibilities.
The updated guidelines allow teachers to schedule their 30-day vacation between April 16 and June 1, 2025, either continuously or in a staggered format.
The revised order also includes Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers and those teaching Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education in the 30-day vacation period. Additionally, students participating in mandatory summer programs will have their vacation scheduled outside the period of May 13 to June 6, 2025.
“This break is a well-deserved opportunity for both learners and teachers to relax after a long academic year. I hope they use this time to unwind with family and loved ones and return re-energized for the new school year,” said Senator Angara.
During the 30-day vacation, teachers are not required to participate in any activities related to the Performance Management Evaluation System. They can submit their electronic Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form by the end of the first month of the 2025-2026 school year. Teachers applying for promotion may submit their required performance evaluations before the last day of classes.
While participation in professional development activities or summer training is voluntary, these events will be scheduled outside the declared vacation period. Teachers who participate will earn Vacation Service Credits in addition to the 30-day vacation allowance.
School heads, however, are not included in the vacation benefits, as they remain responsible for managing the school during the break. However, they are entitled to vacation and sick leave credits during this period.
Teachers may also visit their schools or participate in activities such as the May 2025 elections and sports events during their 30-day vacation.
