SOLON PUSHES FOR INTEGRATION OF BASIC SANITATION AND PERSONAL HYGIENE PRACTICES IN K-12 CURRICULUM
ANTIQUE Rep. Antonio Legarda Jr. is pushing for a measure that would integrate Basic Sanitation and Personal Hygiene Practices into the curriculum of the Enhanced Basic Education Program.
In his House Bill No. 7425, or the proposed Basic Sanitation and Personal Hygiene Education Act, Legarda said that under the current K-12 Program, hygiene concepts are largely treated as theoretical.
While these concepts appear in certain subjects, Legarda noted that there is no clear policy requiring their practical integration.
The solon said the lack of a structured mandate means many students graduate without developing consistent daily habits necessary to protect their health, both in school and in the community.
The bill seeks to address this gap by formally integrating basic sanitation and personal hygiene education into the K-12 curriculum.
The lawmaker stressed that rather than treating health as a one-time lecture or theoretical topic, the bill ensures students receive practical instruction on essential handwashing, personal and oral cleanliness, menstrual hygiene management, and basic daily prevention.
