SENATOR PUSHES FOR MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
SENATOR Christopher ‘Bong’ Go sought the promotion of mental health education in schools and workplaces.
He raised concern over the impact of the pandemic and other crises on the mental health of Filipinos, especially the youth.
The senator reiterated his call for stronger government interventions, particularly on the provision of psychosocial services and support.
The senator echoed the recent World Health Organization’s appeal for nations to invest more in mental health after the latter reported that just two percent of national health budgets and less than one percent of all international health aid go to mental health.
Go once again called on the government to explore all possibilities in extending needed guidance to families, especially as the Covid19 pandemic continues to affect not only the livelihood and physical health of Filipinos, but also their emotional and mental conditions.
He stressed that persistent efforts must be exerted to fully accomplish the purpose of the landmark Mental Health Law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte back in 2018.
