SENATE Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III led the Senate in congratulating and commending Batangas State University for winning the championship in the university category in the Engineering Innovation Challenge held in Singapore.

Pimentel filed Senate Resolution 377 which commended BatSU for its exemplary performance on the prestigious contest organized by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore and Science Centre Singapore, and supported by the Singapore Ministry of Education.

A team of Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering from BatSU bested students from other countries including those from the National University of Singapore and National Technological University, which ranked second and third, respectively.

“Despite limited time and resources of one month to code and develop the prototype, and prepare the video and paper for the project, the team managed to develop AI-quaponics-360, a machine capable of monitoring and controlling zoological and botanical components of a small-scale aquaponics system, using Artificial Intelligence technology,” the resolution reads.

Pimentel said that BatSU’s achievement opened doors to create more innovative and sustainable technologies that would be beneficial to the country, particularly in addressing food sustainability and security through home urban farming.

“These achievements bring great pride and joy to our country by prominently raising the Philippine flag in the realm of science, technology, and innovation, and by highlighting the capabilities of Filipinos globally and internationally as among the world’s best,” the senator said.
