THE STUDENT Council Alliance of the Philippines challenges incoming Department of Education Secretary Sen. Sonny Angara not to disappoint Filipino students as he takes the lead.

“We emphasize that the nation’s future hinges on revitalizing the education sector. In the aftermath of the previous secretary’s controversial tenure, marked by setbacks and widespread dissatisfaction, there is an urgent call for decisive leadership and student-centered policies,” SCAP said.

Citing the recent creative thinking test of the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the students’ group raised alarm over the result as the country ranked second lowest among 64 countries.

“The challenges and fractured system seem daunting to mend, but the Filipino students are expectant that Senator Angara, the new DepEd Secretary, will PRIORITIZE the future of the Filipino youth and rebuild confidence in the nation’s education system,” the group said.

SCAP furthered that the hopes of Filipino students must be fulfilled by solving the education crisis and revitalizing the education system by increasing the budget for the education sector, and championing transparency, participation, and accountability measures.
