THE NATIONAL Privacy Commission on Monday urged the public not to share and avoid posting sensitive videos of minors online.

The agency said such action would expose the minors to bullying and other forms of abuse.

This came after a video of a child’s circumcision went viral on social media.

The NPC said such sensitive content, especially when it involves minors, would expose them to potential cyber bullying and infringes upon their privacy and dignity.

“The unauthorized sharing of videos or images involving children not only violates their privacy rights, but it may also lead to serious psychological and social consequences,” the agency said in a statement.

At the same time, the NPC encouraged the public to immediately report such videos to the respective platform administrators.

“Most social media and video-sharing platforms have mechanisms in place to address and remove content that violates privacy standards,” it said.

It also called on healthcare providers to remind parents and guardians against taking pictures and videos of these sensitive medical operations and the importance of responsible social media usage.

“The privacy and dignity of our children must be safeguarded at all costs. Let us uphold our responsibility in maintaining a safe and respectful online environment for everyone,” it added.
