PRC INSPECTS NORSU’S PHYSICS AND GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT
OFFICIALS OF the Board of Geology of the Professional Regulation Commission inspected the Negros Oriental State University’s Physics and Geology Department to enhance the institution’s program.
Physics and Geology Department Chairman Delilah Ablong said that the officials examined their facilities to address curricular gaps and students’ academic issues.
“So they (PRC officials) have noticed that our performance in board exams [could be higher], because ever since we have never surpassed the national passing percentage, so they are concerned about how we process our students. So they have some areas they looked into: the laboratory, our resources, materials, curriculum, and our faculty,” Ablong said.
PRC urged NORSU to consider incorporating Resource Geology as a subject into its curriculum.
“Because 40 percent of the questions in the board exam is taken from Resource Geology, so that’s almost half of the entire board exam,” Ablong said.
She thanked PRC officials for stepping up to help improve the school’s program.
“[The PRC inspection] is very important because they help us. It’s a government regulating body, and they help us; they suggest what we can do to improve some of the things we lack. We don’t take it negatively because regulating bodies work for the good; they do their job to improve [the program],” she said.
