PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he supports the new Matatag Curriculum of the Department of Education as it is more suited for Filipino students.
“This is very significant because…sinusubukan nating gawin at ayusin ang curriculum para mas bagay sa pangangailangan ng mga batang Pilipino,” Marcos said.
DepEd recently launched the new curriculum in a bid to decongest the K to 12 Curriculum by reducing several competencies.
It is more focused on the development of foundational skills such as literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills for Kindergarten to Grade 3.
Marcos also said that Matatag aims to strengthen the country’s “international score” especially when it comes to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics subjects.
Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, said that the curriculum is the legacy of the Marcos administration in the country’s basic education.
