OWWA SETS APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA announced Sunday that the agency is set to accept applications for their Education for Development Scholarship Program and the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program.
Thus, the agency is encouraging children and dependents of OFW to prepare their documents for the scholarship program.
The application period for the program will start on July 26 and ends on August 16, 2024.
The EDSP is available for OFW’s children and dependents who are 2nd to 5th year college students, while the ODSP is for those who are in 1st year to 5th year.
The EDSP is a scholarship grant to qualified dependents or a sibling of a single active OWWA member who is an incoming Senior High School student or Grade 12, or incoming college freshman, who is not more than 21 years old, and with a generally weighted average of 80 percent, and without failing grades.
For incoming freshmen, the selection of scholars is determined through the Department of Science and Technology national examinations.
Those who are already enrolled in 2nd year to 5th year in college, and who is not more than 30 years old, and has a GWA of not lower than a B letter grade or 85 percent equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended may apply.
Scholars will receive a maximum of P60,000 per school year until the completion of a four to five-year baccalaureate course.
Meanwhile, the ODSP is a scholarship program that offers financial assistance amounting to PHP20,000 per school year to qualified dependents of OFWs who receive a monthly salary of not more than USD600 (P34,000), and who shall enroll, are currently enrolled, or have been enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course in any college or university.
Interested applicants may go to any OWWA Regional Office near them for information on the documentary requirements and to file their applications.
