MANDATORY COMPUTER EDUCATION FOR HS STUDENTS SOUGHT
MAGDALO Partylist Representative Manuel Cabochan III pushed for the mandatory computer education of all high school students.
In filing House Bill 4183 or the proposed Mandatory Computer Education Act, Cabochan stressed that computers play a vital role in education and in the movement and flow of information.
“Computer education is no longer just a luxury which only First World countries can afford,” Cabochan said in his explanatory note.
“It is imperative to equip our students at least with basic skills in computer operation,” the lawmaker added.
The measure mandates all public and private high schools to establish and maintain a computer facility system that will provide and ensure students’ access to computers.
Under the bill, the Department of Education, with the help of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, shall develop appropriate computer education modules that will be included in the regular curriculum of secondary public and private schools.
The DICT will also train qualified personnel in public and private high schools to enable them to serve as instructors and facilitators for computer education classes.
