LAWMAKER SEEKS FULL DIGITALIZATION OF BASIC EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

VALENZUELA 1st District Representative Rex Gatchalian filed a measure that seeks the full digital transformation of all public and private basic education institutions.

In filing House Bill 3713 or the proposed Digital Transformation in Basic Education Act, Gatchalian explained that despite earnest efforts by government agencies and local government units, there is still a great deal of educators and learners who are left behind because of lack of digital resources of the skillset to maximize the available resources.

Under the measure, the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Department of Science and Technology, will ensure that public and private basic education institutions will adopt the use of digital technology in education.

The government agencies are also mandated to digitally streamline and integrate their workflows and processes to promote efficiency in delivering basic education services.

DepEd is also expected to craft a multi-year roadmap to ensure the timely implementation of digital transformation.

It shall also develop training programs and conduct workshops or webinars to equip teachers with necessary knowledge and skills and enhance their virtual teaching capacity and competence.
