HOUSE PANEL OKS BILL ESTABLISHING PH HS FOR CREATIVE ARTS
THE COMMITTEE on Basic Education and Culture of the House of Representatives has approved a measure seeking the establishment of a Philippine High School for the Creative Arts System.
The bill aims to hone the artistic skills and talent of the Filipino youth.
Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo, chairman of the committee, clarified that the measure will not create or set a new school but improve the curriculum of the special program of the arts and design in existing DepEd schools.
The bill will provide scholarship to deserving students with potential in performing arts, creative writing, visual arts and applied arts.
Romulo said the bill aims to provide a continuing source of artists and leaders in the preservation and promotion of culture and the arts in the Philippines.
“It shall be geared towards early recognition and development of highly talented children exceptionally gifted in such field, and protection of their bankable skills and talents,” Romulo said.
Under the measure, the Department of Education will craft the curriculum that will deal with functional literacy while lessons on arts and design or the creative arts will be crafted by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, along with other cultural agencies.
Artists and experts in creative arts who took non-licensure examination for teachers will be allowed to teach.
“This would not only allow them to share their knowledge but to serve as inspiration to the students as well,” Roman said.
