GROUP WELCOMES SARA AS DEPED CHIEF
THE DEPARTMENT of Education-National Employees’ Union, a group of non-teaching personnel, welcomed the appointment of presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio as the next education secretary.
The group is hopeful that Duterte-Carpio will continue the good programs and projects of the Department of Education, especially those that promote employees’ welfare.
“As a union, we welcome and support her as concurrent Vice President and Secretary of DepEd. We have trust and confidence Vice President Sara Duterte can be a great DepEd Secretary and that she will look into the plight of the DepEd personnel not only on the teaching group but to the non-teaching group too, considering her exemplary experience as full-blown politician,” DepEd-NEU president Domingo Alidon said in a statement.
“We are also anticipating partnership with the new DepEd management on the advocacy on public sector unionism and continuity of good programs and projects of the Department towards quality education,” Alidon added.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said she and the DepEd family are ready to work with Duterte-Carpio for the orderly transition of leadership.
“I welcome the announcement by Presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos that incoming Vice President Sara Duterte will concurrently serve as Department of Education Secretary,” Briones said in a statement.
“We will turn over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the first time that an outgoing administration will leave behind a medium-term plan. We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate a continuity,” Briones added.
