DICT PROVIDES FREE WIFI IN 2 MORE ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR SCHOOLS
AS PART of its #FreeWiFiForAll project, the Department of Information and Communications Technology has connected seven more sites in two schools in Zamboanga del Sur.
The schools are Western Mindanao State University – Aurora, Western Mindanao State University – Molave, J.H. Cerilles State College – Molave, J.H. Cerilles State College – Guipos, J.H. Cerilles State College – San Miguel, J.H. Cerilles State College – Tambulig and J.H. Cerilles State College – Pagadian.
The DICT has already installed more than 4,000 WiFis nationwide. It targets to install 10,000 WiFis by the end of 2020 and 104,000 hotspots in 2023.
On July 10, 23 sites were set up in Basilan and Bacolod schools.
“Internet becoming a definitive window to the world’s wealth of information, access to it should be a right of every Filipino and not just the privilege of a few. This is the essence of the Republic Act 10929 or the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act,” said DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II during the virtual launching of Free WiFi for All with the local government of Basilan and Bacolod.
“With the ongoing pandemic, the need for a strong internet connection is seen as necessary for the province in order to cope with the fast-phased exchanges of information related to COVID-19 and the online teaching across the Department of Education,” said Basilan Governor Jim S. Hataman Salliman.
The free WiFis will also help students have easier access to internet connection for their school activities.
