CHANGES in the basic education curriculum are expected to be implemented in 2025, the Department of Education said.

Education Assistant Secretary for Operations Francis Cesar Bringas said that the Department is finalizing the revised Kindergarten to Grade 10 curriculum.

Among the changes is the reduction of learning areas for Grade 1 to Grade 3 students.

Based on the draft released in May, Grade 1 to Grade 3 learners will have a new subject — Sibika, Kultura, Kasaysayan, and Kagalingang Pangkatawan o SIKap where Social Studies, Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health will be combined.

The new curriculum may be launched by the end of July, the official said.

In May, DepEd formed a task force to study the Senior High School program and other policies to ensure that it meets the needs of students.

The task force is expected to submit its findings and recommendations next year.
