DEPED CITES 55.1K INTERNET PACKAGES DELIVERED SINCE 2016
AT LEAST 55,151 internet packages have been delivered since 2016 in an effort to enhance the digital learning in basic education, according to the Department of Education.
Secretary Leonor Briones said DepEd’s Computerization Program provided computer laboratory packages to public secondary schools, e-classrooms to elementary schools, laptop units to mobile teachers, and e-textbooks for senior high school.
“We immediately distributed the donations from the Department of Finance and other partners for advancing our journey towards the digital age,” Briones said.
The secretary stressed she would like to lessen the country’s dependence on materials which are made out of paper.
“This is because we trigger floods, we require the killing of forests, and usually these materials are more expensive compared to ICT,” she said.
Briones added DepEd has also been negotiating with other multilateral partners like Asian Development Bank for the provision of radios and other means of teaching and learning.
“Because there are places that you don’t have connectivity and we use radios. They’re very interesting for our children,” Briones said.
