DAPAT magsilbing wake up call kapwa sa pamahalaan at sa pribadong sektor ang Covid19 pandemic upang isulong ang pagtatayo ng mga karagdagang digital classrooms at smart campuses sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa.

Ito ang binigyang-diin ni House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano sa gitna ng pagtugon ng gobyerno sa matinding epekto ng pandemya.

“For the past decades, our government has not invested in digital infrastructure and learning management systems both for elementary, secondary and tertiary institutions. This pandemic has become a wake-up call for all of us,” pahayag ni Cayetano.

Ipinagmalaki ni Cayetano na sa ipinasa nilang Bayanihan to Recover As One Act, isinulong ng mga kongresita ang paglalaan ng mahigit P8 bilyon para sa sektor ng edukasyon upang matulungan ang mga eskuwelahan, mga mag-aaral at maging ang mga guro para makatugon sa hamon ng alternatibong sistema sa pag-aaral.

Sa ilalim ng niratipikahang Bayanihan 2 ng Kamara, P 8.9 bilyon ang nakapaloob sa P165.5 bilyon na alokasyon sa kabuuang gastusin at standby fund upang suportahan ang sektor ng edukasyon, partikular na para magbigay ng tulong at subsidiya sa mga public elementary, sec-ondary at maging sa tertiary schools.

Binigyang-diin pa ng House Speaker na kailangan ng financial aid ng libo-libong guro sa mga pribadong eskuwelahan sa ilalim ng ‘no teach, no pay’ setup.

Una nang kinumpirma ng DepEd na nasa 440 na pribadong paarala ang tumigil sa operasyon dahil sa bagsak na numero ng enrollees.

“There are private school teachers who have not been receiving their salaries for more than five months. And they have to pay for rent, electricity, and now Internet. If you do not have a pro-gram for them, how will they survive this period?,” pahayag pa ni Cayetano.

“We need to continue investing in our education sector because it is vital for our students and teachers to adapt, innovate, and manage the challenges of the new normal. The House of the People will continue to coordinate with DepEd and CHED and listen to our students and teachers so we can address their concerns amid this pandemic,” dagdag pa ng House Speaker.
