CHED SIGNS MOA WITH PRIVATE HEIs TO HELP DISPLACED CDSL STUDENTS

TO ENSURE that displaced students from the Colegio de San Lorenzo may continue their studies after it closed, the Commission on Higher Education signed a Memorandum of Agreement with private higher education institutions.
CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III said that provisions of the Manual of Regulations for Private Higher Education will be lifted through the MOA to enable a smooth transfer of students from CDSL to these specific HEIs, including those related to students graduating with Latin honors and credits to be given for the subjects students have taken.
“The position of the commission from the very start is we want to address the plight of the students first before talking anything else,” De Vera said.
“What we have said from the start is we want to make sure that transfer of the affected students could be facilitated, that their tuition fees be refunded, that their transfer of credentials could be expedited also, and that the school records have to be given to CHED NCR,” he added.
The Our Lady of Fatima University, Trinity University of Asia and NBS College were some of the HEIs that pledged assistance and signed the MOA in order to welcome the displaced students.
The President of OLFU, Carolyn Enriquez, thanked CHED for ensuring that the students will not be displaced.
“It is clear within the MOA that we just signed, we are willing to abide by whatever parameters could be done for the sake of the students,” she said.
CDSL President Mary Claire Balgan expressed gratitude to these schools that have accepted their students.
