CHED, DICT TO PROVIDE NET TO COLLEGE STUDENTS

/ 17 August 2020

THE COMMISSION on Higher Education has coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to provide internet connection to college students.

“Basically the CHED is in close coordination with the DICT. And I think in the Bayanihan Law no. 2, the DICT has promised to put up digital infrastructures so that connectivity will be strengthened in state universities as well as different local government units,” said CHED Commissioner Ronald Adamat.

Adamat added  that the internet program will be funded by the government through the DICT.

However, he stressed that state colleges and universities may put up their own internet connections if they could afford such undertaking.

This as he noted that some universities already have internet connections.

Adamat added that strengthening internet connectivity is a responsibility of the DICT.

The DICT’s #FreeWifiForAll has installed more than 4,000 WiFis nationwide and targets to set up 10,000 more by the end of 2020 and 104,000 hotspots in 2023.
