2 PLM PROFESSORS NAMED COMELEC COMMISSIONERS

TWO PROFESSORS of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila formally took on the post of commissioner of the Commission on Elections on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Atty. Ernesto Maceda Jr. and Professor Nelson Celis took their oath before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City.

Maceda, Jr. and Celis will serve as commissioners until February 2, 2029.

Since they received ad interim appointments, both commissioners can assume office pending the confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.

“Congratulations to Commissioners Maceda and Celis! We are confident that they can ably fulfill their duties at the Commission on Elections given their knowledge of the law and track record in public service,” PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said.

Maceda served as dean of the PLM College of Law from 2006 to 2015 and executive vice president of the University from 2007 to 2009.

He also taught subjects in other renowned law schools in the country. He is deemed an expert in election law, administrative law and constitutional law.

Maceda also served as a councilor of the City of Manila from 1988 to 1995.

Meanwhile, Celis is a former executive vice president and acting vice president for Information and Communication Technology of PLM in 2016.

He later became a Professor III at the PLM Business School.

Maceda and Celies will join fellow PLM professor and former regent Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia in the seven-member poll body’s en banc.
