PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Ka Leody de Guzman appealed to Filipinos to patronize the Metro Manila Film Festival to support the industry.

De Guzman made the remark on Wednesday after reports came out that the film fest drew flak.

Several critics said on social media that this is due to the “low quality” of the films being produced which just recycle plots and narratives.

“Para magkatotoo ang ‘Buy Filipino,’ hindi lamang sa pelikula kundi sa lahat ng industriya, kailangan ng isang ekonomiyang inuuna ang pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan,” De Guzman said.

“Hindi export-oriented, import dependent economy. Tiyakin din ang makabubuhay na sahod at regular na hanapbuhay upang may kapasidad ang ating mga kababayan na tangkilikin ang mga nililikha ng mga Pilipino,” he added.
