PRESIDENTIAL candidate Leodegario ‘Ka Leody’ de Guzman released a comprehensive agenda detailing his policy platforms for the youth.

De Guzman shared on social media that he plans to focus on education reform. He also gave proposals to solve issues faced by children, out-of-school youth and the Sangguniang Kabataan and National Youth Commission.

“Ang kabataan ay hindi simpleng pag-asa ng bayan sa hinaharap, ngayon pa lang ay makikitaan na sila ng kapasidad para baguhin at mag-ambag sa pamayanan tungo sa isang progresibo, malaya at maunlad na lipunan,” De Guzman said.

“Sila ang tagapagmana ng lipunan kaya malaking bahagi ng aking plataporma ay para sa paggawa, kalikasan, klima at pampulitikang reporma. Kailangan natin ihawan ang landas para sa pagbabagong nararapat para sa kanila,” the labor leader added.

De Guzman’s education reform agenda includes the Universal Students’ Magna Carta that focuses on 13 major points namely absolute and unconditional academic freedom, right to organize and spaces for organizing, and access to free, quality, and accessible education, right to Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity or Expression equality and anti-discrimination and right to be safe and secure from state security forces’ surveillance, harassment and violence.

“Hindi lang dapat ligtas at malayang espasyo ang mga pamantasan, kundi dapat maging balwarte ng kritikal na pagsusuri tungo sa pagpapaunlad ng lipunan,” he explained.

De Guzman’s policies also include funding of schools’ retrofitting and subsidizing the required utilities for distance learning such as gadgets and Internet connections.

The presidential candidate also aims to reform the school curricula to include sexual health education, labor rights and climate science, as well as a general reorientation from global marketability to national development.

For the out-of-school youth, De Guzman plans to improve the skill and capacity-building programs of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

He also wants to make campuses more accessible for disabled students.
