UST SUSPENDS CLASSES, OFFICE WORK FOR ONE WEEK

/ 6 April 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas will impose an academic break until April 11, 2021 upon the request of the faculty.

UST Secretary General Jesus Jay Miranda made the announcement after the university’s Faculty Union requested for an academic freeze amid the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region and four neighboring provinces.

“In order to allow our stakeholders to focus on their health and family concerns in the light of the spike in Covid19 areas, the suspension of classes and office work is extended to Sunday, 11 April 2021,” Miranda said.

He said academic submissions including those for thesis subjects are “most likely to be suspended as well.”

Academic heads will communicate with professors and students, he said.

Assistant Professor Emerito Gonzales, UST-FU president, said the academic freeze will give students and faculty members the much-needed mental and emotional relief from the stress and anxiety induced by the pandemic.
