/ 1 August 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Los Baños will offer BS Mechanical Engineering course for the first semester of Academic Year 2021-2022 following the approval of the UP Board of Regents.

The program was developed by Dr. Jovita Movillon and Engr. Marita Natividad de Lumen.

“It is the College’s vision to commit to the progressive transformation and global relevance in engineering education through a more comprehensive, competitive, advanced, and complete College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology,” Movillon said.

“With the institution of BSME, CEAT (College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology) is close to becoming a comprehensive engineering college, and now, energized to tackle head-on the many possibilities and challenges of a growing college,” she added.

UPLB said BSME will be under the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with Dr. Ralph Kristoffer Gallegos as chair, while De Lumen, Engr. Jerric Delfin, and Engr. Frederic James Espiritu will serve as faculty members.

Meanwhile, the university will also offer a master’s degree program in Food Engineering this year.

The program is suitable for industry professionals who desire to gain practical knowledge within a relatively shorter duration and work on skills-based, rather than theoretical, research problems, according to UPLB.

The establishment of MA in FE was led by Dr. Adeliza Dorado as chair and Dr. Myra Borines as co-chair.

They were joined by AP Rina Bawar, Floreindo Flores, Dennis Cantre, Dr. Jewel Capunitan, Dennis Marvin Santiago, and Dr. Kevin Yaptenco.
