Aldin Ayo will have a fresh start for his coaching stint after being named as the new head coach of the Chook-to-go Pilipinas team that will represent the Philippines in the FIBA 3x3 tournament.

Ayo was introduced together with the team that will banner the new name “Manila Chooks TM” in a courtesy call with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday.

He will be succeeding former head coach Eric Altamirano, who resigned from his post last week due to personal reasons.

“I’m very grateful because, for me, this will bring another dimension to my coaching career,” said Ayo.

This will turn over a new chapter for the decorated mentor after his controversial stint with the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

UAAP had slapped the former UST coach with an indefinite ban following the Sorsogon bubble fiasco last September.

Despite the recent controversies circulating the new head tactician, the chief backer of the PH 3X3 team had no reservations in choosing Ayo.

“Coach Ayo is my personal choice,” said BAVI president and 3×3 patron Ronald Mascariñas.

“He is the most decorated coach in college right now and we are excited that he is now here with us,” he added.

Ayo has been known for his “Mayhem” brand of basketball which brought Letran and La Salle to the NCAA and UAAP championships.

Being it his first foray in the half-court of the 3×3 basketball, Ayo will not yet join Manila Chooks TM in Doha Masters of the 2020 FIBA 3×3 World Tour at a later date this month.

His first formal training session with the team is scheduled before the year ends.

“Throughout my coaching career, it was the full-length of the court, but this time will be different. I can’t wait to try out new schemes for half-court,” Ayo shared.

Manila Chooks TM will be led by No. 1 Joshua Munzon, No. 2 Alvin Pasaol, No. 5 Troy Rike, and No. 6 Santi Santillan.
