UP VISAYAS STUDENTS WIN IN REGIONAL CAMPUS JOURN COMPETITION
THREE student writers of the University of the Philippines-Visayas bagged awards at the recently concluded Philippine Information Agency Journalism Convos.
Lara Grace Palay and Hans Ethan Carbonilla were named two of the most promising news writers while Zion-Grace Rosareal was named one of the most promising English editorial writers in the region.
All three represented the official publication of the Communication and Media Studies.
“I felt happy that I was included in the list of most promising news writers, and it brought back memories from school press conferences I’ve been in high school. I think it’s also proof that I have learned something from the lecture and my course as well,” Palay said.
Meanwhile, Rosareal said that her win marked her seventh year in PIA Seminar-Workshop.
“The award was but a reminder for me when I first started and why to this day I still choose journalism,” she said.
Rosareal added that she re-learned the importance of brevity in editorial writing.
The event focused on news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, trends and innovations in online media writing, page designing, science and health writing, sports writing, and photojournalism.
The PIA utilized online platforms such as ZOOM and Facebook Live to make the event possible because of restrictions on physical mass gatherings.
Student writers in secondary and tertiary levels across the region joined the contest.
