/ 3 November 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Visayas has started discussions on a possible academic cooperation with Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Among the collaborations discussed were the establishment of the Huawei Academy and the training modules to be formulated by the academy.

“Faculty members from the BS Computer Science program can be trained to teach the modules and they can eventually be trainers themselves,” the university said.

“Students who finish the module get a certification,” it added.

Li Yung and Chahol of Huawei recently met with Vice Chancellor for Administration Prof. John Lorenz Belanio and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Harold Monteclaro to iron out the details of the agreement.

Also present during the meeting were Philippine Genome Center Visayas Director Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols, College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Prof. Nilo Araneta and Coordinator of the Data and Information Systems Program Prof. Rhea Subong-Espina.
