UP PROF AMONG TOWNS AWARDEES
A PROFESSOR from the University of the Philippines’ Marine Science Institute was one of the women honored by The Outstanding Women in Nation’s Service award.
Given by the TOWNS Foundation, Inc., the award honors Filipinas aged 21 to 45 years old who have contributed greatly to Philippine society in their chosen fields.
Dr. Aletta Yñiguez’s work focuses mainly on marine ecology, biological oceanography, ecological modelling and dynamics of marine systems.
Yñiguez was recognized “for helping to create tools for sustainable fisheries, made accessible especially for small-scale fishers.”
“In her quest to ensure the health of our oceans and the proper management of its resources, she collaborates with government agencies including Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and coastal communities,” UP-MSI said.
TOWNS Awards first began in 1974 when Lions Club International under District 310A Governor Manny “Gabby” Alino led the first search.
