/ 15 March 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of Mindanao has sought the help of the Visayas State University for the development of its Food Technology Program.

Dr. Florence Kristina Jimenez, UM College of Hospitality Education dean, said the VSU’s Department of Food Science and Technology was selected because it offers the best practices in the field.

Dr. Lorina Galvez, Department of Food Science and Technology head, is optimistic about the partnership that will help UM with its goal of creating a food tech program.

“If realized, this will expand the curricular offerings of UM’s College of Hospitality Education and will allow them to venture into the science and principles involved in processing, preserving, and engineering food products,” VSU said on its website on Thursday

“CHE plans to adopt the science-based course design and the strong research leanings of the VSU food technology program that make it stand out from among other state universities and colleges offering the same undergraduate course,” it added.

Officials from both schools met online on March 4, 2021 to discuss the development of the program.
