UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE RELAUNCHES POTTERY CENTER

/ 4 December 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of Antique reintroduced pottery-and-ceramics-making as part of its efforts in “transforming lives and developing communities.”

The university was known as one of the best ceramics schools in the 1960s. It was formerly known as Antique School of Arts and Trade.

In an interview, UA President Dr. Pablo Crespo Jr. said that aside from popularizing the talent and business, the university will also help barangay residents promote their products.

The project aims to revive the pottery and ceramics industry in the municipality of Sibalom, particularly in Bari village.

On the other hand, UA launched Balay ni Juan-a, a bamboo-themed hotel that is part of the Juan-A-Go Tourism Program under the Commission on Higher Education’s  Edutourism initiative.

Bamboo furniture and crafts are showcased as part of the decorations of the bamboo hotel. This is to highlight the university’s mechanism for establishing a bamboo nursery that will be led by Dr. Nelly E. Mistio in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.
