UE RULES OUT TUITION INCREASE
THE UNIVERSITY of the East on Wednesday said that it will not raise tuition in the coming school year.
Chancellor Zosimo Battad gave the assurance following the appeal of student groups.
Students in UE-Caloocan campus called on the school’s administration not to increase tuition and other fees for Academic Year 2021-2022.
“I already reported officially to the UE Higher authorities your good deeds to the studentry. I would like to inform you too that we decided not to have tuition fee increase this year taking notice of your advocacy and dire situation we are all facing,” Battad said.
The Central Student Council earlier said that many facilities on campus and other school fees provided no direct benefit to the students amid the conduct of distance learning.
It added that increasing school fees would lead to lower enrollment because the pandemic greatly affected the finances of families.
“It has been made known, time and again, that the community is against the tuition fee increase for the aforementioned reasons. It has been mentioned that even a decrease would be a more understandable course of action and would show not simply concern, but also fairness, given that learning today mainly takes place within the students’ homes through their own equipment,” CSC said.
