TWO CAVITE STATE U PROFESSORS WIN FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS

TWO faculty members of the Cavite State University were awarded full doctoral scholarships by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State under its Fulbright Foreign Student Program.

“Ms. Sheryl Sierra is currently taking a PhD in Agronomy and Horticulture major in Plant Breeding and Genetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,” CvSU said.

“Ms. Amyel Dale Cero, on the other hand, is currently enrolled in the PhD Environmental Science program with specialization in Water and Wetland Resources at State University of New York-College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York,” it added.

The scholars flew to the US in September 2020 after attending the Virtual Gateway Orientation conducted by Wayne State University on August 3 to 21 in the Philippines.

Cero obtained both her Bachelor of Science in Biology major in Microbiology and Master of Science in Environmental Science degrees from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños.

She has worked in the watershed projects of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Cavite, surface water assessment with the Cavite provincial government, and climate risk vulnerability assessment with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office IVA.

Meanwhile, Sierra took a BS in Biology major in Genetics at UPLB and is a recipient of the Undergraduate Intern Scholarship at the then Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center.

She obtained her Master of Science in Crop Science and Biotechnology major in Crop Molecular Breeding from the Seoul National University in South Korea.

“As Fulbright scholars, both Sierra and Cero are expected to return to the country to impart their learnings and experiences in an American institution to further enhance the quality of education in the University,” CvSU said in a statement.
