‘SEVEN-POINT RIZALISTA DEMANDS’ PUSHED BY STUDENT GROUP AT THE RTU

/ 5 September 2020

DISCERNING students at the Rizal Technological University are pushing for what they called a ‘7-Point Rizalista Demands’ to counter the university’s proposed flexible learning scheme, citing the students’ economic capacity to sustain such a mode of instruction.

The Rise for Education – RTU Chapter has expressed in their campaign on social media that it is against the school’s flexible learning system called ‘flexsys’ and said it will fight for basic education rights alongside with the various sections of the RTU community.

The group has initially demanded the RTU administration to shoulder the educational expenses of the teachers and students, citing that a lot of families are currently economically challenged due to the effects of the health crisis.

Second, the group has urged the school to ensure that students will have genuine free education and calls for the removal of useless miscellaneous fees for college and laboratory for high school without prejudice to the refund of examination fee for the university’s senior high school department.

Third, they would also want the RTU administration to fix its problematic, error-prone website, especially now that all transactions will be online.

Fourth, they demand that the administration ensure that RTU workers will have a safe return to work, with sufficient and livable pay.

Fifth, the group wants the university to strictly implement minimum health standards inside the school and provide free personal protective equipment for RTU workers.

Sixth, the group also wants fair representation in the decision-making body of the university, and emphasizing the students’ rights to freely voice concerns against whatever questionable school policies.

And lastly, the group is pushing for an effective Covid19 mass testing reportedly to give way for the safe opening of physical classes at the RTU.

“Ang pagsulong nitong pitong kahilingan ay hindi lamang nakasentro sa pangangailangan ng mga estudyante, kundi sinasaklaw din nito ang pangangailangan ng iba’t ibang sektor sa ating pamantasan.” the R4E-RTU explained.

The RTU administration has yet to announcel its university calendar for the upcoming school year.
