LUSOT na sa House Committee on Basic Education and Culture ang panukala para sa pagtatayo ng Science High School sa Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

Kung tuluyang magiging batas, ito ang kauna-unahang science high school sa ikatlong distrito ng lalawigan.

Sa pagdinig ng komite, napagkasunduan din ang pag-amyenda sa House Bill No. 4226 ni Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Isagani Amatong kung saan sa halip na magtayo ng bagong gusali para sa science high school, iko-convert na lamang ang Siocon National High School.

“This bill was initially deliberated upon during the online hearing of the Committee on Basic Education last May 20, 2020. However, the DepEd recommended that instead of creating a science high school, the existing Siocon National High School should just be converted into a science high school,” paliwanag ni Batanes Rep. Ciriaco Gato na nag-sponsor ng panukala.

“After consultation with the principal of the Siocon National High School and with the stakeholders, Congressman Amatong agrees with the recommendations of DepEd,” dagdag pa ni Gato.

Ayon sa DepEd, sa 51 national high schools sa ikatlong distrito ng Zamboanga del Norte na binubuo ng 12 munisipalidad, wala pang science high school na naitatayo.

“The establishment of the Siocon Science High School in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, with emphasis on the sciences, is intended to make readily available by reason of proximity, educational programs and facilities of the state, in places where they are strategically needed by its youth, in particular, and the community in general,” pahayag naman ni Amatong sa explanatory note ng panukala.
