SAINT LOUIS U MULLS ACADEMIC BREAK

/ 1 November 2021

THE SAINT Louis University in Baguio City is considering declaring an academic break following calls from students for a breather.

The school said that the matter will be discussed during a meeting on November 9.

On Saturday, students massed outside the university to demand a respite from their studies, citing mental health concerns.

Hundreds of students also conducted a candle lighting ceremony for their peers who committed suicide due to academic pressure.

The university said that it has started dialogues on the possible declaration of an academic break.

“Even prior to the candlelight protest, the SLU Administration has already begun a dialogue with representatives of the SLU KASAMA/SSC in order to thresh out their request for an academic break,” it said in a statement on Sunday.

“Rest assured that requests are embraced with understanding and utmost compassion. We thus request for everyone’s sobriety as we navigate towards a resolution that is fair, just, and humane,” it added.
