PISAY STUDENTS WIN IN TWO INT’L COMPETITIONS

STUDENTS from the Philippine Science High School System Central Mindanao campus were victorious in the International Applied Biology Olympiad held in Bali, Indonesia last month.

STUDENTS from the Philippine Science High School System Central Mindanao campus were victorious in the International Applied Biology Olympiad held in Bali, Indonesia last month.

Karylle Martina Cabahug, Andrea Nicole Buenaventura, and Miguel Paolo Mabunay won the gold award.

Cabahug also received the grand award.

On the other hand, Lance Vincent Canceran and Pierce Cyczar Ciel Salise bagged the silver award, while Ashley Mikyla Dahan secured the bronze award.

They were coached by Sheila Marie Lazaro.

IABO is an international competition platform in which students from 9th to 12th grade compete, and the questions are prepared in line with the philosophy of STEM education, especially Biology.

It aims to improve students’ biology skills, create competitive competition, and look for talented and creative young biologists.

Meanwhile, Liah Mei Caduyac and Ethan Jeushrey Montuya of PSHS Central Visayas campus won first prize in the Physical Science Category of the 9th ASEAN Student Science Project Competition.

Caduyac and Montuya, along with their coach Dr. Benito Baje, were recognized for their project titled “Design and fabrication of an inexpensive curcumin-based paper sensor for sodium hypochlorite sensing.”

The competition aims to encourage students to improve the 21st century skills through science project activities.

It also provides a venue for students and teachers to foster their friendships among ASEAN network including over 150 participants attending the event.
