PISAY ROLLS OUT NEW LEARNING STRATEGIES

/ 1 December 2020

THE PHILIPPINE Science High School System shared new strategies that will help the school provide quality education to its students.

During a webinar, Philippine Science High School Executive Director Lilia T. Habacon said that Pisay has set up a task force consisting of 26 committees that will allow them to customize and holistically respond to concerns on distance learning.

The task force is made up of Pisay constituents and was formed after consultations with the faculty, parents, students, industry representatives and other sectors on issues regarding administrative concerns, curriculum development, teacher education, information technology, and student services, among others.

Different committees to protect the overall health of the students, teachers, and staff, academic learning integrity, and emotional support for students and faculty were also set up.

“A committee coordinates with public health authorities so that education actions are in synchrony and help advance health goals and strategies,” Habacon explained.

She added that the school implemented academic breaks so that students can recharge their physical and emotional ‘batteries’.

Pisay teachers meanwhile enjoyed professional development programs to better support learners.

The school also offered a bridging program where students can revisit the lessons they missed when classes were suspended because of quarantine restrictions.

Bridge programs focus on essential topics and skills required for the following school year, Pisay Ilocos Region Campus Director Dr. Ronnalee Orteza said.

The Pisay community also created the Pisay Knowledge Hub, an online learning management system featuring learning materials for students and assessment tools for teachers.

The hub has supplementary materials which students can download and study offline.
