PISAY PARTNERS WITH AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY
THE PHILIPPINE Science High School System partnered with Queensland University of Technology of Australia in a bid to improve Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics teaching methodologies.
The collaboration aims to reinforce the approaches in teaching STEM education following the success of the fellowship held at QUT in August 2023 which was participated by the delegates from the PSHS System.
“The synergy between the Philippine Science High School System and the Queensland University of Technology demonstrated a steadfast commitment to excellence in STEM education,” PSHS said.
“By leveraging the expertise of QUT, the PSHS System not only enhanced the delivery of quality education but also contributed to a global research collaboration and data-driven decision-making in educational practices,” it added.
The school welcomed QUT delegation led by Associate Professor Dr. Vinesh Chandra.
This, PSHS said, provided a wealth of expertise to scale up the ongoing professional development for teachers and cultivate a global perspective among agency officials.
During the visit, the QUT delegation also had a meeting with officials from the Department of Science and Technology, including Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., Usec. Maridon Sahagun, and Executive Director Lilia Habacon
The QUT team also engaged with students at the PSHS-Main Campus, discussing topics like climate change, Filipino culture, and history.
“The centerpiece of the collaboration was a two-day Project-Based Learning Workshop in Cebu City wherein Dr. Chandra engaged with the identified PBL Champions from the 16 campuses, diving into the intricacies of implementing innovative teaching methodologies,” PSHS said.
“Recently, the Associate Professor along with three other QUT professors – Dr. Catherine Challen, and Dr. Charisse Farr, reported on the progress of the Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship re-entry action plans in Legazpi City,” it added.
“These plans encompassed Future-Proofing PSHS STEM Curriculum, addressing climate change through Planet Lemniscate, embracing digitalization with Pisay SPECTRA (Student Performance Evaluation and Comprehensive Tracking), and promoting inclusivity in assessment,” it said.
Meanwhile, QUT and PSHS System pledged to lay the groundwork for a future generation of informed and empowered learners.
