‘ONLINE CLASS’ DELETION FROM SOCMED SOUGHT
AN ONLINE petition has been launched seeking to delete the highly controversial Vincentiments Kung Puwede Lang short film “Online Class” and has garnered a total of 35,659 signatures as of August 12.
The petition was launched on August 8, a day after the film made rounds on social media and earned criticisms due to its ‘inappropriate’ narrative against school teachers.
Wea Acala, who launched the petition on Change.org, said the film is “degrading to all teachers who are underpaid and overworked” and yet continue to do their best to adapt to the new mode of learning amid the Covid19 pandemic.
“Teaching is not for the faint of heart but please let us spare them from this kind of treatment. NOT THIS TIME, PLEASE…#RespectTeachers,” Acala wrote in her petition.
Netizens also lambasted the film’s director, Daryl Yap, for allegedly being ‘ignorant’, ‘disrespectful’, and ‘one-sided’.
Meanwhile, the creative team behind the film said they were only telling the truth.
“KAMI PO ANG VINCENTIMENTS AT HINDI KAMI PARA SA MAGULANG LANG, SA ESTUDYANTE LANG, SA GURO LANG. KAMI AY SA TOTOO LANG.,”Vincentiments said in a statement.
The film has garnered various reactions with 407,000 ‘laughters’ , 116,000 ‘angry’ reactions and 49,000 ‘likes’. It has 251,000 shares, 58,000 comments, and a total of 11 million views on Facebook.
Signatories to the petition continue to rise and are nearing to hit its target of 50,000 signatures.
