MSU-IIT PROFESSORS PRESENT RESEARCH AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PDLS

FACULTY members from the College of Health Sciences at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) recently presented their research at the 3rd International Conference on Persons Deprived of Liberty.

Asst. Prof. Lynuel Santillana, Asst. Prof. Jessica Orias, and Assoc. Prof. Mae-Lanie Poblete shared their studies at the conference.

Santillana presented her paper, “Doing Time While Making Time for the Young,” which examines motherhood in detention under Track 2: Elevating Voices (Narratives, The Arts, and Creative Expression).

Orias and Poblete discussed their works, “Sagip-Piitan: Health Care Initiative Health Lecture Series and Hygiene Kit Project” and “Evaluation of the Health Program for Older Adults in Iligan City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology,” respectively, focusing on health initiatives for PDLs.

The keynote speakers included Dr. Mnessha Gellman, Director of the Emerson Prison Initiative; Dr. J. Prospero De Vera III, Chair of the Commission on Higher Education; and Atty. Sean Addie from the US Department of State.

Also representing CHS were Assoc. Prof. Rambe Ramel, Jr., Assoc. Prof. Jiddo Andrei Maranda, and Asst. Prof. Karlo Gayao.

The event was organized by the University of Southeastern Philippines and the Social Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Business Institute under the theme “Beyond Barriers: Reconnect and Rebuild.”
