/ 13 June 2023

SOME 2,000 residents in Ilocos region are learning about goat and swine production through the school-on-the-air program implemented by the Mariano Marcos State University.

The pilot broadcast of the program was aired on DWFB Radyo Pilipinas Laoag last week.

“We take delight in bringing you this latest SOA program, which reflects our commitment to promote relevant technologies to community members, who are always at the core of our development endeavors,” Dr. Marilou Lucas, director of MMSU extension, said.

Mercy Gaño, applied communication chief of extension directorate, said that various topics on goat and swine production have been lined up for the broadcast classes.

These include feeding management, farm planning and budgeting, record keeping, disease/health management, animal breeding and reproduction, housing, new production management strategies, meat processing, capital management, waste management and marketing.

The lecturers come from the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development and the College of Veterinary Medicine, with Gaño serving as the program anchor.

MMSU said students will take a pre-test and subsequently undertake a post-test and other examinations as part of their learning venture.

They are required to listen or watch the classes to receive certificates of completion.

An achiever’s examination will be administered to boost healthy competition among performing enrollees.

The program will run until November 15. It will be aired on these following schedules:
• DWFB every Wednesday and Friday at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
• DWCI Rayo Adjo-Piddig every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 a.m. to 6 a.m.
• DWNI Radyo Karruba Burgos every Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
