/ 22 November 2023

IN ADHERENCE to the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), iACADEMY Cebu hosted the “Safe Space” event, an initiative that underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering an environment free from all forms of gender-based sexual harassment.

The highlight of this significant event was the Pledge of Commitment Signing, symbolizing the collective dedication of students, faculty, and staff toward creating a safe and inclusive learning atmosphere.

The “Safe Space” event at iACADEMY Cebu was a proactive step in aligning with the principles outlined in RA 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act.

This legislation is designed to prevent and address gender-based sexual harassment in educational institutions and workplaces.

iACADEMY Cebu, true to its commitment to providing a secure and nurturing learning environment, initiated this event to reinforce the values of respect, dignity, and inclusivity within its community.

The focal point of the event was the ceremonial signing of a Pledge of Commitment by students, faculty, and staff. This collective commitment emphasized their dedication to maintaining a campus culture that rejects and actively addresses gender-based sexual harassment.

An awareness campaign was conducted to educate the iACADEMY Cebu community about the importance of creating and maintaining a safe space.

Informational materials, workshops, and discussions were organized to foster a deeper understanding of the issues related to gender-based sexual harassment and the role each individual plays in prevention.

The event provided a platform for open dialogues and discussions on fostering a culture of respect and empathy. Students, faculty, and staff actively participated in conversations aimed at building a more inclusive community.

“Our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment is unwavering. The Safe Space event is not just a one-time initiative; it marks the beginning of a continuous effort to ensure that every individual within our community feels respected and protected,” said Rigan Ap-apid, Campus OIC and Vice President for Operations, iACADEMY Cebu.

iACADEMY Cebu remains dedicated to the principles of the Safe Spaces Act, continually working towards maintaining an environment where everyone can thrive without fear of harassment.

The “Safe Space” event stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusivity.
