FEU STUDENTS SEEK SUSPENSION OF SYNCHRONOUS CLASSES
THE CENTRAL Student Organization of the Far Eastern University sought the suspension of synchronous activities so that learners can focus more on their health and families.
“Synchronous activities such as quizzes available for a limited period, graded recitations, graded class presentations and other live assessments pose a challenge to students who cannot attend synchronous classes due to becoming Covid19 positive, attending to family members infected of the virus, experiencing intermittent or slow internet connection, and other viable reasons,” FEU-CSO said in a letter to Dr. Maria Teresa Trinidad Tinio, senior vice president for Academic Affairs.
The student body also asked the university to extend the submission of academic requirements and encoding of grades for a week.
“The student governments and the Faculty Association have agreed to request the administration to create necessary actions to ensure that this guideline will be effectively followed across all assessments and that no assessment should be given with a shorter lead time,” FEU-CSO said.
The group asked the school administration to release guidelines of 2.5 hours of workload per week and urged faculty members to adhere to such recommendations.
It also called for a deeper understanding and sympathy for the community.
“The evident lack of consideration experienced by students exhibits an adverse impact to the overall well-being of the Tamaraws. Therefore, we strongly seek for a better student and faculty centered response encompassing the improvements on dealing with the constant rise of cases and worsening of the Covid19 pandemic,” it said.
“A year may have passed after the pandemic began; however, it does not guarantee that all are well-adjusted with the circumstance,” the group added.
