THE BICOL University has named its first Professor Emeritus – Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascarinas, the school’s 8th president.

The BU Board of Regents passed Resolution Number 848 series of 2023 conferring the title on Mascarinas on March 8, 2023.

The university said the title is given to retired professors “who have made exceptional achievements, demonstrated outstanding service to BU, and met the qualifications set by the BU BOR.”

BU said that one should be retired, served BU for at least 20 years, and have shown significant leadership to win the title.

“As Professor Emeritus, Mascariñas may continue to participate voluntarily in the following activities: publish scholarly articles, deliver specialized lectures by invitation, serve as a mentor of academic staff or be involved in staff training, supervise postgraduate students in cooperation with the employed adviser, serve on research committees and other steering committees where his expertise may be required, and serve on review and investigation committees or fulfill other advisory tasks upon request,” it added.

The professor can also use the university’s facilities and laboratories for professional purposes and will have an identification card bearing the title.
