THE ATENEO de Manila University was named as the top educational institution in the country and the 84th in Asia for 2023 based on the latest Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings.

It got an overall score of 47.4 based on five pillars – teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

It surpassed the University of the Philippines, which fell to the 201-250 bracket. Last year, UP was ranked 129th in Asia.

The De La Salle University and Mapua University also made it to the list, ranking 501-600 and 601+, respectively.

The Cebu Technological University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, University of Santo Tomas, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, Tarlac Agricultural University, and Visayas State University submitted data for inclusion in the rankings but did not make the cut.

The 2023 ranking included 669 universities from 31 territories. HEIs are assessed based on 13 performance indicators that are grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and income industry.

Tshinghua University and Peking University, both in China, took the first and second spots in the rankings.
